Ok so this is my first tip. Its more important than anything so please digest this:-
Always think in the long term.
Which means?
Well the aim for all of us - I'm assuming - is to get our sites to perform well in the search engines and continue to do so. There are many ways to do this but we need to think about what will work not just for today but in the future.
The search engines - and we're particularly talking about Google here - continue to advance and do a better job all the time. What 'works' today may not work next week.
The perfect example of this is the common link building strategy of a few years back. The practise was to buy thousands of links pointing at your site in order to fool Google into thinking your site was popular.
Did it work? Yes!
Does it work today? No!!!!! And so many older sites have disappeared into nowhere and can do nothing about it. Google recognises the fact that they were cheating the system and penalises them accordingly.
So don't follow a practise today because we can 'get away with it'. Because tomorrow we may not!
Instead use techniques that enhance the quality of your site and the web as a whole. If you improve the experience of your readers then no harm will come to you as the next Google algorithm appears.
See you next time..
